We were hopefull that Castell wouldn have been ready for the summer of 2020 but, as with many other projects, we are running behind schedule due to COVID-19.
However, work on Castell is currently under way and we will be looking to be provide a little more detail as time (and building work) allows.
The main cottage, Castell is a 3 bed property, sleeping 5 with a further 1 bed self contained cottage, Yr Atodiad, sleeping 3. We are also considering our options regarding the large outbuilding to the rear. We have to re-roof it at some point and as there is power, water and drainage to it, we might create an additional playroom, hobby room or even a small self contained unit.
Update 10 August 2020
Been quite busy over the last few weeks.
1st fix water and electrics all complete
2x 100 bore holes drilled and ground collection loops fed into the porch/plant room
Replacement windows fitted
Exterior hacked and scratch coated ready for ‘roughcast’ (the final coat)
Underfloor heating installed with 15t of self levelling screed poured.
Ground sourced heating system being connected and commisioned this week (15/08/20)
Plasterers are tidying last few bits getting ready for the final roughcast which should be done by 22/08/20 if the weather permits.
Insulation being fitted into the roof ready for plasterbaord and rooms being prepared for plaster (ideal for the days when it is too wet to do the outside)
Hopefully we will have some big updates in the next 3-4 weeks. The new screed floor is going to take months to fully dry (they joke about Christmas..) as in some places it is over 90mm deep. The underfloor heatong will speed up the drying time as it will be left running on a low temperature to help get the remaining moisture out. The flooring will the last thing to go in so realistically it will not be holding up any other works.
Here are a few pictures to give you an idea of where we are up to. Not quite as much work required as the barn but have the same team of tradesmen assisting in the rennovation.
